Home made Burger Buns

Burger is one of my most favourites junk food!!! A big slosh of ketchup, a slice of cheese and crispy crunchy filling with a big can of cola....  Burrrrppp!!! It is all I need for a weekend dinner.

Burger Buns are soft, bouncy and should stay kaput when you bite into it. This was my first try and these came out perfect!!!

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Standing Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Makes: 4 buns
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Source: Gayathri's Cookspot

What would you need:
  1. Butter - 1 tbsp
  2. Curd - 1/4 cup + a pinch of Baking Soda (this serves as the egg substitute)
  3. Flour - 1  3/4 cup
  4. Sugar - 1/8 cup
  5. Luke Warm Water - 1/3 - 1/2 cup
  6. Salt - 3/4 tsp
  7. Instant Yeast - 1/2tbsp
How to go about it:
  • In a bowl add flour, salt, sugar, butter, curd baking powder mixture and yeast.
  • Add water little by little to knead a soft and slightly sticky dough. You may not use the 1/2 cup of water, so start from 1/4 cup and add tablespoons of water as you knead. Stop when the dough consistency is achieved.
  • Knead the dough for 10 minutes to make it soft, silky and pliable. This helps the gluten to develop in the dough.
  • Place the dough in a clean bowl and keep it covered for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • When the dough has doubled in volume, transfer it to counter and punch it down.
  • Divide the dough into 4 equal parts.
  • Roll each ball by cupping it inside the palm and rolling it in circles until you get a smooth finish.
  • Place the balls on a greased baking tray with enough space for the next rise.
  • Flatten each ball and cover it again with a towel for another 30 minutes or until the dough has doubled.
  • Pre - heat the oven at 200 C for 10 minutes.
  • When the dough has doubled, brush the top with milk and sprinkle sesame seeds.
  • Now, place the tray in the oven and bake for about 15 - 25 minutes or until the top of the bun has turned golden brown. Once the buns are done, brush the top of the buns with some butter.
  • Make burgers and enjoy...
Points to remember:
  • If you are using Active Dry Yeast - use the same quantity as that of the Instant Yeast.
  • If using an OTG place the baking tray in the centre rack while baking.
  • Half way through baking, rotate the tray so that the heating is even.
  • If you are using a convection oven, you can skip the step of rotating the sides of the tray.
Njoy with your loved ones...

Luv..
