Surnoli


My grand mother in law is a Konkani. She makes excellent food. So this is one of her delicacies from the Konkan Express. 



Surnoli is a sweet dosa made with jaggery. It has a savory variety also. Usually made for breakfast at our house. So now I'm on my break and I get to enjoy all lovely items from my in laws. 


What you need:

  1. Rice - 3 cups
  2. Poha/ Aval - 2 cups
  3. Grated Coconut - 1 shell
  4. Jaggery - to taste 
  5. Salt - a pinch

How to go about it:
  1. Soak rice and poha/ puffed rice separately for about 5 hours. 
  2. Grind puffed rice/ poha with grated coconut smoothly with very little water. Grind rice with little salt smoothly with very little water.
  3. Mix jaggery to this batter and let it rest for a night.
  4. Next day, on a hot griddle spread the batter and  make dosas.
